Hi. I signed up as a new member of the GLAHW today and thought that I would introduce myself.
I have always loved to write and I've always loved to read ghost stories. It was only a matter of time before the two came together. I started writing online and for others on my blog starting back in 2011. The only thing is is that it's a food blog. The only scary thing there is when the recipe doesn't come out right and I'm scrambling to order take-out before the family turns to food crazed zombies. By writing there I gained a lot of confidence in what I write. The blog became pretty popular and I was receiving 40,000+ visitors a month. A food company had me write a recipe for them and I was paid in actual money - which made my wife happy.
The food blog started as a fun hobby and a way to simply write about something - and who doesn't like food? The feedback and interaction was great.
But then it slowly began to feel like work and I was getting bored with it. It wasn't fun anymore. It became longer and longer between posts until finally I stopped.
In 2015 I really started to focus on my fiction work. (I use the name E.F. Olsson for that) That's my love. I started a blog to share some short short stories there. That also built up my confidence in what I was doing. At the beginning of this year, I sat down and wrote my first novel. During that time I gave up on the food blog. When my third child was born my hosting renewal came up and I disregarded it. I had a new baby in the house and a novel to finish. Well, the hosting provider erased the site when I didn't make my payment and I lost everything - everything! I didn't think people cared about the food blog, but I started getting emails and Facebook messages asking where I was and what happened.
So, I restarted the food blog this past August and I'm still focused on my fiction writing. I'm slowly trying to re-add content to the website but it's going slow. Once the kids are back in school and I can get some quiet time, I'm sitting down to start my edits on the novel to get it completely finished. I love the story and I love working on it. I just can't wait to get it complete so I can work on my next project.
If you would like to visit either of my websites, here are the links: the food blog is RedBeansAndEric.com and my fiction work is EFOlsson.wordpress.com. I hope that you enjoy them!
Thank you very much for having me. I'm excited to be apart of the GLAHW. I hoping to contribute to the upcoming anthologies and writing more fiction.
Eric
