We would like to put together a list of useful books about writing to hand out at the upcoming DPL events. So the question then becomes, what books on writing have you found useful and why?

So I'll go ahead and start:
On Writing by Stephen King -- hands down the best book on writing I have ever read.
Self-Editing for Fiction Writers by Renni Browne -- You can not stress the importance of editing ones own work and this is a good introduction on how to kill your babies.
Telling Lies for Fun and Profit & Spider, Spin Me A Web by Lawrence Block -- The two books together create a powerful combination. Between the two, Block's essays cover both the craft and business of writing. There is a lot of valuable information between the two.
You're Not Fooling Anyone When You Take Your Laptop To A Coffee Shop: Scalzi on Writing by John Scalzi -- A humorous look at the real nuts and bolts of writing as a career. Not all of these are exactly what one would call encouraging, so it is a nice balance to some of the other more flowery books out there.
